ENRICHED AIR aka NITROX

What is Nitrox ??
Ans: Nitrox is simply a mixture of air and nitrogen. Air is composed of 79% Nitrogen and 21% Oxygen. Nitrox, Enriched and EANX are commonly used in the dive community to refer to oxygen-nitrogen mixture containing more oxygen than ordinary air; that is more than 21% oxygen.

What are the two common mixtures in the dive community ??
Ans: Nitrox I with 32% oxygen and 68% nitrogen and Nitrox II with 36% oxygen and 64% nitrogen.

What is the benefit of diving with Enriched Air aka Nitrox ??
Ans: The main benenfit in diving with enriched air because of the less percentage of nitrogen in the breathing gas. Nitrox absorbed in the body during a dive is what usually put a diver at risk decompression sickness(DCS) or the ' the bends' reducing the amount of nitrogen one breathes can reduce the risk of developing DCS. Using the nitrox mixtures the bottom can be extended as compared to normal breathing gas. Many divers also resported feeling less fatigue after breathing nitrox.

Can nitrox diver get DCS ??
Ans: Because there is still nitrogen in the breathing gas, diver can still develop DCS. Used properly, because of the lower content of nitrogen, thus it will reduce the amount of nitrogen absorbed and reduce the risk of developing DCS.

Can i used Nitrox for deep dives ??
Ans : In fact, nitrox is limited for shallower depths than air due to the increase in oxygen content.

Is Nitrox Safer than air ??
Ans: The danger of oxygen toxicity, while present with any breathing mixture(including air) can become a problem at relatively shallow depth due to the elevated partial pressure of the oxygen(PO2) This can result in seizures, which are nearly almost fatal underwater with standard SCUBA unit, as they usually lead to drowning. This risk can be easily manageed by adhering to the recommended maximum operating depth (MOD) for enriched air mixtures.

Can i use Nitrox on repetitives dives ??
Ans: In a nutshell, yes, you can dive air first, follow by nitrox or vice versa...

Is it true that you have to replace all your equipment when diving with nitrox ??
Ans: No, at the minimum you will need to have a dedicated nitrox cylinder. All your equipment can remain so long as your EANX mixes is less than 40%.

Who offer the certification ??
Ans: Louis Goh
